Overview

The Scaffolding Trap Door — also called a scaffold access hatch, manhole door or platform trap door — is a hinged, lift-out panel set into a scaffold working platform that gives crews and materials a safe, closeable opening between different scaffold levels. Rather than leaving a guardrail gap or a loose board, the trap door drops into the deck opening on its hinges and rests on the toe boards, so the platform stays solid everywhere else while a controlled access point bridges the levels.

On site, a trap door is the clean way to move people and materials between scaffold levels without breaking the deck. The door is hinged at one edge and drops into the platform opening, resting on the surrounding toe boards and bearers, so the rest of the working platform stays fully decked and safe. When open, a drop pin or similar lock holds the door up and clear of the opening, giving a stable passage for crews and loads; when closed, it lies flush with the deck and restores the full platform. Made from Q235/Q345 steel and finished hot-dip galvanized (with a powder-coat option for high-visibility sites), the trap door is built for repeated daily use across construction, maintenance, industrial and offshore access. A trap door keeps the platform decked and safe. Where a level change needs an opening, the trap door gives controlled access and then closes flush, so the deck is never left with a loose board or an unguarded gap.

The door is hinged at one edge and drops into the platform opening, resting on the toe boards and bearers so the rest of the working deck stays solid. Open or closed, the platform remains a continuous safe surface.

Locked Open with a Drop Pin

When access is needed, a drop pin (or similar lock) holds the door up and clear of the opening, giving a stable passage for crews and materials between levels. Release the pin and the door closes flush with the deck.

Steel and Finish

Trap doors are made from Q235/Q345 steel and hot-dip galvanized for corrosion resistance on site, coastal and offshore projects. A powder-coat option is available for high-visibility sites, and the door is built to EN 12810 / EN 12811, ANSI, AS/NZS 1576 and OSHA.
