Frame scaffolding, also called walk-through or mason frame scaffolding, is among the most widely used access systems in construction. A standard frame set includes 2 welded main frames, 2 pairs of cross braces, and 4 joint pins. Caster wheels can be fitted to the base of the frame, so it also works as mobile scaffolding that moves easily.

Frame scaffolding was first developed in the late 1950s in the United States as a fast, practical job-site tool. It spread quickly for its simple assembly, easy relocation, strong load capacity, safe and reliable use, and good cost efficiency. By the 1960s, Europe and Japan had introduced and refined the system. In those markets frame scaffolding now makes up roughly 50% of all scaffold types. Since the 1970s, China has imported frame systems from Japan, the US and the UK and applied them on high-rise projects with strong results.

It serves not only as interior and exterior access scaffolding, but also as slab and beam formwork supports and mobile scaffolds — a truly multi-function system.

Frame Scaffolding Application

Frame scaffolding is used for: (1) formwork propping and flying-form support in buildings, halls, bridges, viaducts and tunnels; (2) interior and exterior perimeter scaffolds on high-rise buildings; (3) movable work platforms for MEP installation, ship repair and other fit-out works; (4) temporary site dormitories, warehouses or sheds when paired with a simple roof frame; (5) temporary reviewing stands and spectator terraces.
